German retail and distribution giant Metro is investigating Iran's market to establish eight department stores in Tehran,said Bonno van der Putten from Monarch Capital Partners, Retail experts Metro is also examining what opportunities Iran will offer with the end of Western sanctions," Bonno van der Putten from Monarch Capital said, reported bizcommunity.com. Preparations for the expansion of its whole cash and carry business are underway. Metro is already present in around 30 countries in Europe and Asia. Its brands include consumer electronics chains Media Markt and Saturn, the supermarket chain Real and the hypermarkets Metro Cash&Carry. In January, Western powers ended political sanctions on Tehran dating back to 2002, after the UN's atomic watchdog confirmed Iran had complied with modifying its nuclear program. Western companies are now lining up to move back into the country.
